PKR v SPDP:-Saratok”The Battle rages On..”

SPDP Presidents recent statement of “we have learnt from mistakes made in the April 16 polls and would thus be fielding only winnable candidates in the 13th general elections.” It has really open the floodgates for opinions, rethinking and reengineering from the incumbents and their supporters. It is indeed a fair statement from the President and with it an ultimate aim as one would put it as “NO PARTY WOULD WANT THEIR STRENGTH ERODED BY LOSING SEATS

In the lasts state elections SPDP losts two(2) seats in Krian and Ba’kelalan both to PKR. Both were strongholds of SPDP as it were the seats of the Deputy President and the Secretary General of the party. The President has losts both his left and right hand man and he knows that the party needs to maintain the four(4) remaining Parliamentary seats

SPDP’s four parliamentary seats are P192 Mas Gading currently held by Dr Tiki Lafe, P 205 Saratok (Jelaing Mersat), P217 Bintulu (Tiong King Sing) and P220 Baram (Dungau Sagan). President Mawan statement and stand of late has indeed up the ante and a repeat of the PKR v SPDP in Saratok and Baram seems a mosts likely. Baram incumbent seems to have made his stand and he told the english daily,”he would love another go in Baram as he has many plans for the people.”

Saratok remains a winnable seat for SPDP while PKR has a right to differ. Saratok, with a population of over 50,000 is represented by MP Jelaing Mersat from SPDP. The state constituency of N33 Kalaka is under Abdul Wahab Aziz from PBB, and N34 Krian is under Ali Biju from PKR.  In the lasts state elections Ali Biju defeated Peter Nyarok the SPDP incumbent handsomely.

An insider source reveals to us that Nyarok has not losts all hope and is eyeing revenge by putting his name in the hat as a possible candidate. He is after all the Deputy President of the party and it is highly likely that Jelaing will not be appointed to stand.  The groundswell is very much against Jelaing as his “Batang Hidung” is not even seen at any of the 3 Malay villages . The “malay” votes are important in this parliamentary seat and SPDP will not chance it again as the reports on the ground is anything but kind to the incumbent.

The results below shows how Peter Nayrok was edged out by the PKR candidate at the lasts Sarawak State Elections:-

1. Liman ak Sujang (SNAP)……………………..216
2. Peter Nyarok ak Entrie (BN-SPDP)……..3,088
3. Banyi ak Beriak (Bebas)…………………….125
4. ALI AK BIJU (PKR)………………………..5,178

Jumlah mengundi/Votes Cast…………………..8,674
Peratus/Percentage………………………….78.87%
Undi rosak/Spoilt votes………………………..67
Majoriti/Majority…………………………..2,090

Penyandang/Incumbent: Peter Nyarok ak Entrie (BN-SPDP)
Undi diperolehi/Votes polled: 4,784
Majoriti/Majority: 2,089

Nyarok will make a claim for the seat as judging from the lasts two parliamentary elections SPDP has had very comfortable wins and he is all out to bait PKR assemblyman Ali Biju to stand against him. Jelaing has maintain his silence unlike Jacob Sagan and Nyarok sees this as an opportunity not to be missed to get back at PKR and make up for what he has losts

Word has got to the ears of an aide close to the PKR assemblyman. He said,”any other persons nominated by SPDP our YB will not stand in the parliamentary seat but if SPDP was to renominate Jelaing or put in Nyarok, there is every chance that he will seriously have to reconsider.

Year Barisan Nasional Votes Pct Opposition Votes Pct
2004 Jelaing Mersat (SPDP) 11,995 72% Edmund Stanley Jugol (SNAP) 4,450 27%
2008 Jelaing Mersat (SPDP) 12,470 76% Mohd Yahya Abdullah (PKR) 3,764 23%

PKR he said was very pleased with the assemblymans stand in his recent comments on rumours in circulation that ,”he was prepared to jump ship and also join SPDP. Furthermore he reiterated that ” he was a staunch Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) man and that was where he would remain.”

Ali is definately toying with SPDP and as he knows Nyarok very well. Nyorok being a fighter in his own right had tested the bitter pill and he will do his utmosts to lay claim to be nominated for the seat. The ball is thus played back to the feet of the election committee of SPDP and the President. Will SPDP fall into the trap of PKR as Ali Biju has been told to make his stand beforehand. PKR and Pakatan hierarchy knows that this is one seat that they can ill afford to ignore and they will push all out for Ali to re-consider for the better good of the coalition as a whole.

SPDP and BN will need to consider all options to go for a seasoned politician or take the chances with a new fresh faced candidate? No matter what this battle will go on be it with or without the names we have mentioned.

SPDP in saratok no body seems to care as the YB and MP gaji buta saja. They are just buying time and masuk “pension” cukup lah. Change new people or else byebye is the ground swell

Jelaing and Jacob sagan are always “playing safe” kind of politicians. Keep quite, as long as your seats are secured. Who cares?. Facts is they are really ineffective YBs, they represent opportunity loss to SPDP and the people they represent. They are indecisive, selfish and plainly incapable of carrying out their duty effectively. For Jacob to say after 4 terms or 20 years as an MP, he still had plans for his people is a mockery and a big joke. He must be “nyanyok”. Look at how backward Baram is, what had you done over the last 20 years. At such an old age you should voluntarily retire and let another younger, a more capable and energetic person to take over for the good of the Baram people. History will jugde and remember how in effective you are. Look at your inner circle- comprising only half past six old man and your in laws- and domineering wife. For once Mawan, seem to put his feet down, an stamp his authority. I would expect him to replace at least 3 people.–Tiki, Jelaing and Jacob. better still if it include Tiong.

I know nothing about politics, but my point of view is—>>whoever candidates involved in representing your nation, mans, state or whatever by means, just do your job in a right way. If not, there is no such a thing you LIVE in your post. YOU ARE NOTHING.

awak punya komen memang baik, kalau dah tua nak teruskan jadi yb tak payah tiada apa kemajuan di beri yb peter nyarok dan yb jelaing mersak hanya ambil nama yb kalau kaum melayu mungkin lagi tinggi darjat kalau dah tua macam mereka berdua, jalan ulu krian dah lebih 30 tahun tak boleh settle sendiri yang guna itu jalan

      • andrew langkah andoh says:

Pendapat saya, PKR harus cari calon lain untuk bertanding MP supaya ahli PKR bertambak banyak. YB Biju sebenarnya, bukan hendak jadi YB tetapi terpaksa dan dipaksa oleh perbuatan xyb P. Nyarok. Tanah dicerubuh, kayu di tebang di jual. Xb perompak. Buat laporan Polis, tidak ada tindakan. Harap pembangkang akan menang di peringkat Federal di GE13. God bless them, and us, the malaysians….Bujang Kerimpak Labu

Only Jelaing is the winnable BN candidate for 205 Saratok…but have to work hard n must garner support from all young n old, esp young intellectuals who are mostly fence sitters..wake up Jelaing…dont just minggle with a few young opportunists like Chambai n Dr James Chella, who only appear last few months in Saratok..

Bujang kerimpak labu says:PKR should let yb ali biju to stand as MP. he is well like by the iban as well as the malays. he work in btu but managed to travel to area he represents as ADUN. honestly specking, i do not want barisan to lost in Swak, but i want a strong opposition. look at sabah now where umno rules. who are the heads of the immigration, custom and other departments?

  7. jjchaling says:

xcellent job for YB Ali at the last state election. so that the gov both federal n state can open they eyes that iban saratok “tak makan janji bula”. no one of our iban YBs dare to rise the issues on NCR( traspassing by Tabung Haji n other dev compenies or give the tittle to the native) facality (better xces roas, clean water, electericity), oil royalty for sarakians n budget for rebuild or renovated the old primary school in saratok area. start from my mother, me now turn to my daugther are schooling at the same faces of school (wooden school) sekolah pondok in kelantan even better than our primary school in Saratok. what are shame for saratokian in mellinium area. 2020s is 7 years ahead but iban in saratok is far from development. think twice saratokian!

  8. DR.THOMAS BUAN says:

Whoever win this PRU13 as our MP please bring sustainable development to the people of Saratok. Saratok fit to be upgraded to a new residency like Betong; Roban and Kabong to districts status. Why do we have yo go to Betong for any official duties? We new and better roads, infrastructure, basic needs of electricity & clean water must be accessible to all Saratokian. Allow, spur and bring in more economics development in line with balance social development. Make full use of all government agencies (You name it). Increase the capacity of agricultural & tourism (home stays) activities. Do not forget the importance of Education. We need TVET centres, we need Ministry of Higher Education to build more institutions of higher learning in Saratok. Saratok deserved attention. Empower and guide “Community Development” through spirit of cooperativeness, cohesiveness and true brotherhood. Roban (Seblak) fit be a new DUN to be represented by a new YB. Do not neglect the youth, the school dropouts-offer them second chance through skill training. Do not neglect the poor, be inclusive, go for outreach programs. For every body….

YB Stay for only the most three consecutive terms. Pass the button to the next person. Nobody is dispensable. May they have more and better ideas… Long live Saratok..

  9. Orang Saratok says:

Just vote for the party that can bring changes to benefit us especially the Ibans in more meaningful way. It is obvious that BN can’t do it after being given all the opportunities the last 50 years. The greatest damage inflicted by the BN among the Ibans over the years is the creation of the dependency mindset syndrome which destroys the very spirit of our existence. The sooner we realize the damage done the better. So go all out in full force and overcome the fear of trying something new by voting PKR candidate.
