MCA-Story 1 KUCHING STORY 2 KT..How..??

Seems that most stories will be politicised as everyone gears up the ante in getting political mileage and leverage. Our report is three fold today with MCA taking the limelight in the first coverage while the Mayor of Kuching has taken over to get himself awkwardly in a SPOT OF A BOTHER with some opposition voices. KT is  three days to go and its hotting up. The 1st story is copied in full from the source Malaysiakini http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/96416 in which it was headlined ‘Extra charges for CNY”

Extracted from malaysiakini,” Pos Malaysia has come under fire from a MCA Youth leader for imposing additional charges to post Chinese New Year greeting cards.According to MCA Youth Strategic Planning Bureau chief Neil Foo, Pos Malaysia is charging an additional 50 sen for stamping,  or 20 sen more than the usual rate.

Foo was saying that there is an “unproffesional level” shown here and what matters to us is that MCA has finally come out to voice their concern for the paying rakyat. We can only say,’Keep it up and do not use this just to gain political mileage”

On the home front though this story by an internet blog,”Borneo Warrior” and the english tabloid has caught many by surprise this morning. The coffee shop was full of it,” Does the Mayor know what he has done? He is seen as doing good public service but  this might just about bring him down says a retired civil servant. Even former PKR legal advisor See Chee How while speaking to Natasha of audie 61 joined in the chorus of unwelcome remarks,” How could he.? Something  is definitely wrong. Temporary O.P and according to the council safety and health requirements..?” For the benefit of all readers we will posts the reports in full with permission from Borneo-Warrior

 Hand Delivered Occupation Permit (OP)

By Borneo Warrior

This is the story and reality of people who are powerful and connected in Sarawak.

A city Mayor personally hand over an OP to a several stars hotel developer, smiling for the historic occasion, published in a daily English newspaper today, 14th January,2009. It is a top class service rendered non other than the Mayor himself to the hotel owner/or,is it the advisor?

On the contrary, developers bemoan and house buyers incessantly complain the endless ,tedious and the massive bureaucracy govern the issuance of the dreaded piece of paper called the OP.

Excuse me, is this tedious process a thing of the past? If its so efficient and swift and hand delivered by the the local councils/DBKU/MBKS officers to the applicants/developers etc.. than I am truly sorry, and admittedly, is well behind time! Kudos!

Four Points by Sheraton Kuching hotel receives temporary occupation permit

KUCHING: The Four Points by Sheraton Kuching hotel received a temporary occupation permit from the Kuching City South Council (MBKS) after its mayor made a surprise inspection yesterday.

Mayor James Chan acknowledged that the inspection was carried out to check if the hotel had complied with the council’s safety and health requirements.

“This is my second visit. Today is a surprise visit with my officers to make sure things are properly done and in compliance with the council’s requirements, before issuing a temporary occupation permit to them,” he said yesterday.

Four Points by Sheraton Kuching is developed and owned by Global Upline Sdn Bhd.

Global Upline’s advisor Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing who welcomed the mayor’s visit said as an international hotel, they must make sure that their regulations and rules, designs, safety and health equipment have met the local authority’s requirement.

“The mayor has come here to see it for himself and he has found that everything is fine. We get our temporary occupation permit today as some other things are not ready yet. We always welcome the mayor and the authorities to visit our hotel anytime,” he said.

Chan said he preferred to personally check and see things instead of waiting for officers to give assessment reports which could take a long time.

He pointed out that Four Points by Sheraton Kuching is the first international hotel and a landmark within MBKS’ jurisdiction.

Another significant milestone for Global Upline is that the hotel was completed just after a short period of construction.

Ting assured that Four Points by Sheraton is structurally sound and meet the safety and health standards.

QUESTIONS  WILL BE ASKED BY THE GENERAL PUBLIC AT LARGE as both these stories in todays English Tabloid and the Malaysiakini internet portal will have caught many either by surprise or wanting to know more.

As for the KT byelections both PAS and UMNO are going all out to convince the voters to vote for their man. Its up to the 80229 on the 17th January.

Bad to worse. This is really disturbing news. Isnt this helping the opposition to have an easy ride in Sarawak? What is happening and my friends when met at breakfast just could not believe that the Mayor has done what he has done. Does he need to hog the limelight?

What the heck is this mayor up to? Maybe he wants to be a candidate too to wrestle back one of the losts SUPP seats. You are a civil servant and keep it that way!!!

Mayor James Chan finally shows his true color and that he is indeed a proxy for Taib. When he was the general manager for Hardwood Timber Sdn Bhd, NGOs from neighbouring Kalimantan has traced the illegal felling and sales of logs from Indonesia to hardwood Timber Sdn Bhd and the our pirate Taib has also been implicated by officials from Indonesia.

It was reported that Taib has given the directive to SAPU, the enforcement unit of Sarawak Corporation, to transfer all confisticated logs from other parties to Hardwood Timber for processing and then sold to overseas buyers.

Back to mayor James Chan and his appointment as mayor. I bet SUPP chairman knew that James is Taib proxy and that his appointment was deliberately done to weaken SUPP ( although the general consensus was that it shouldnt be a political appointment ) who was then fighting to save face among the chinese community after losing 6 states seats to DAP. Taib could have just given the post to SUPP for just one term if he wanted to as it is Taib’s sole decision.

I can understand why George Chan still stick to him despite the back-stabbing and will continue to be his lapdog with the thousand of millions of ringgit that he personally benefitted. What about the 30% dayak members and 70% chinese members in SUPP and some of the old guards and second rank leaders? How long can they pretend to be stupid and hope for some crumbs to drop upon their feet? They should before this CNY resign and join any parties in the PAKATAN to tell George that he can have SUPP all for himself and by himself.

  6. Tiger says:

This shows how influential TIng Pek King is. Even the Mayor is under his control. Will Taib be able to reshuffle the cabinet and not re-appoint Larry, Ting Pek King’s son-in law?
