Ahead of state polls, Sarawak BN parties start naming their candidates
KUCHING, April 19 — As the clock ticks closer to the Sarawak state elections, the state’s Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties are wasting no time as they start rolling out their list of candidates ahead of the June 2016 deadline for the polls.
The latest to unveil their list was the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), which announced at a dinner last night its choice of candidates for six out …of the eight state seats they traditionally vie for in every state election.
They are lawyer Cila Nasu for Tasik Biru, lawyer Kilat Beriak (Krian), quantity surveyor Belayong Jampong (Meluan), businessman Brian Fung, lawyer Fabian Andrew Sigar (Ba’kelalan), and a senior government officer (whose name is being withheld) for Marudi.
SPDP President Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the party is still deciding on whom to pick from a shortlist of names to contest the Bekenu and Batu Danau seats.
The announcement follows the earlier move by Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) in declaring that it will retain seven of its eight state lawmakers for the state polls, pending an endorsement by the state BN leadership.
