What SPDP-PRS Merger?Grassroots Consulted?

The Inside sources. (The merger talk started as early as July 2005. It must be noted that earlier PRS Supreme Council Meetings the issue was just touched on and nothing came of it and mosts of the time it was just brushed aside. The council members concentrated on the of setting up Bureaus,Divisions and going on Membership drive as the agenda from the 1st-8th Supreme Council meetings

Sequence of Events:-February 25th 2006  9th PRS Supreme Council Meeting. We shall see if we are to merge was the signal from the meeting.( CM’s office has already sent signals to merge to be BN3)

May 25th 2006 PRS Crisis starts- 2 Camps

March 10th 2007 SPDP President Mawan said PRS leadership problem makes pursuing possibility of merger of coalition partners impossible.

November 9th 2007 Dato Sri Dr James Jemut Masing is in no hurry to hold a merger talk with SPDP.

May 8th 2008 We said The walls are starting to Shake!!.  Drama at its bests… Two Multi- racial BN parties merging as one entity.

May 9th 2008 The merged SPDP and PRS will become the second largest party in Sarawak going by the number of its elected representatives.

May 17th 2008 Merger easy at the top uncertainty at grassroots.

May 29th 2008 PRS-SPDP in the right mood to merge.

Latest :-Masing said while it was important for the leaders of both parties to work together towards the merger, it was even more important to get approval of the members on the ground.

May 30th 2008. This prompted a Youth leader Leon Jimat Donald aligned to Larry Sng to come out and query Masing. When did you consult the grassroots? Are the 19 Divisions which are with Larry consulted? He even asked Masing to refer to read the article of April 10th 2008 that they still do not recognise Masing as President of PRS. The 19 divisions still reminded Masing not to manufacture overlapping and illegal divisions. The ROS has not up till today the 30th of May 2008 replied to the ” legal lists of office bearers”.

Leon said that It seems that the MARRIAGE of SPDP-PRS is an exercise of convenience for the leaders and not the grassroots. The divisional leaders are not even consulted and no official statements are forthcoming from the PRS Headquarters.

The PRS Constitution clearly states in Article XX  and reads as 1. The Party shall not be dissolved/merged except by:-a) A resolution passed at the triennial Delegates Conference attended by not less 3/5s of the delegates eligible to attend under the provisions of article V11 Clause 1(a) of this constitution b) a 2/3rds majority of votes of the members present at such TDC as provided under clause 1(a) of this article.

2. notice of the dissolution/merger shall be submitted to the registrar of Societies within 14 days from the date of dissolution having been passed under clause 19a) and (b) of this article.

Is it so simple? Yes if all parties and the constitution is followed in total. The present scenario with the government of the day being under great surveillance and scrutiny it is not merely asimple tasks. Questions will be asked and if answers are not forthcoming especiallyt in Parliament there will be Uproars.

Our View stays:- Its already nearly two and three quarters years of talks and consultations from  July 2005 till now. Let the merger take its natural course and until there are concrete and detail plans it will remain still a “QUESTION MARK” and also maintain the momentum and prove me wrong……

Wishing all members and supporters of Party Rakyat Sarawak and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party “Selamat Hari Gawai” “Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai” Happy Merging…….

At least got details. So much happenings yet no results. That goes to show how the leaders are doing and working. What is the merge entity? Who is the leader? So what happens if the 19 Div. dont follow? I know join opposition party.

  2. TPua says:

What happen to ROS? You mean… The ROS has not up till today the 30th of May 2008 replied to the ” legal lists of office bearers” That is strange. I will bring it up to Parliament soon. Sounds good..

  3. ANAK Sarawak says:

The merger idea is good. but before anything else (and that includes all those PR talks that it is for the good of the rural community) let’s be realistic and ask these pertinent questions : 1. Would James Masing sacrifice what he has now, and that includes the much sought coveted title of a party president, and jump to a proposal which may make him playing second fiddle? 2. Would William Mawan forgive and forget what James Masing had done and said to and about him and number 3, which is the most important of all, Is the idea in line with the divide and rule policy practised by the State BN.

  4. Leon Jimat Donald says:

I wish to reiterate again, for the merger to go through, all the divisions must be informed and consulted. The 19 divisions have not been consulted at all and these divisions constitute more than half of the divisions registered with ROS. Somebody is trying to deflect some bigger issue here, or better still, bringing us all for a ride with no definite destination.

Selamat Gawai to my Dayak brethren, may this Gawai bring you all more blessings and hope.

    Leon J. Donald

  5. Teo P says:

It seems that the internal feud in PRS not solved yet? How to merge like that? What is ROS doing? In the end it will see a deregistration, It is still a long way for this 2 parties to merge. C’mon a lot of blah blah and Blah

  6. Nizam says:

Masih bertengkar kah dalam PRS? Saya fikir sudah selesai masalah. Kenapa Masing cakap macam tak pakai otak?

  7. Nasja bte abdullah says:

I joined PRS from Keadilan and they have not solved their problems yet. In time all my wanita will join back Keadilan. We are all from Satok Division in PRS. By the way when did James Masing consult our Division. I hardly make noise but I think the BN leaders should listen to grassroot and not take us for granted.

  8. Cilla Balla says:

I agree with my counterpart from Satok Division. We in Batu Lintang has 428 ladies and mosts of us from PBDS and also were partyless. Now the party has not solved their problems and they want to merge. I hope Masing will wake up. We have been supporting him all this while from PBDS to PRS and he is geeting more arrogant by the minute. Our division is made up of a composition of ethnic races and our Div.leader has commanded this division very well. We trusts his leadership qualities and we hope that masing will talk to our div.grassroot before venturing further.

  9. SPDP Boy says:

Our leader Mawan better watch where you step ? so many objections to the merger. Nyarok and Slyvester you 2 also wake up . I think Tiong should also open his eyes. Remember SNAP..

  10. R.Ee says:

At least we in Spdp know how Prs members view the merger.Come to think of it why do we need to merge? Is PRS getting into hot soup thats why its an alterantive for them created by CM. Divide and rule again.

  11. Koay C.A says:

eermm the SAGA continues is it.So when is the date or cutoff period to talk. They even try to fool the grassroots. How come.?

  12. J Kuek says:

ah yo yo .Tks for sharing the constitution. No mor going to be cheated by masing or Mawan. We will be ready.

  13. Winnie says:

Latest :-Masing said while it was important for the leaders of both parties to work together towards the merger, it was even more important to get approval of the members on the ground.
Isn’t he lying to all the members? How come so many still blinded by him? come to think of it how come we are manipulated by all the lies of politicians and we still follow. Got black magic kah?

  14. Raphael ak.Kuak says:

I agree with leon that for the merger to go through, all the divisions must be informed and consulted. Masing better follow or else he stands to lose 19 divisions. PRS is not Him and he should know that the Party is all members of PRS

  15. Low CC says:

I read at Borneo Posts that Lu Kim Yong Pending Secretary expressing his disappointment with State Government. Want to leave BN. You go first then the party will win. A lot of people think he is over the top.
Dun think you speak for all of us lah.
