It seems that not only it is crucial for UMNO but the battlelines have been drawn by DPM Najib. In this malaysiakini report http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/95721 Najib says,”the upcoming Kuala Terengganu by-election is crucial for Umno. Indeed for him, Kuala Terengganu is the key to reversing Umno’s fortune after playing bridesmaid in Permatang Pauh. The Jan 17 by-election will be the second electoral battle after BN’s disastrous performance at the general elections in March last year.
If Umno were to lose Kuala Terengganu, where Malays comprise almost 90 percent of the voters there, it would deal a fatal blow to the party’s standing within the majority community. UMNO (BN) will be represented by Datuk Wan Farid Wan Salleh 46,while PAS (Pakatan) by Abdul Wahid Endut 52 years old who are their parties choices as candidates for the upcoming KT by-election with nomination day on Tuesday and polling is on Jan 17.
Meanwhile as the malaysiakini report which has caught many in Sarawak by surprise http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/95428 an sms was sent to audie61 at 16.54pm which states,”Heard that PKR cd not get venue for dinner on Jan 9th..Tough” Of course we answered with,”Is it..? That’s news to us.We will check ..”
As an immediate reaction a phone call was made to former PKR legal advisor See Chee How who happens to be away in KL and has just paid a visit to the IGP.
He said,no,no,no “the venue that they were proposing was too small as many are expected as this will be Anwars first official visit to the state as PKR Sarawak State chief. There are looking at different venues and the team will be look at all options before they decide. They have also to look after the SECURITY and CROWD which will be there to welcome and listen to Anwar.All the necessary measures are to be taken with the advice of the police and we will not leave any stones unturned.
Chee How also said that they do not forsee any trouble as the police will be in full force to look into any untoward incidents. PKR is ushering in the New Year 2009 in which they forsee that the state elections will be held within this year. Its a New challenge for PKR, he further added”
This January we will see interesting developments for both BN and Pakatan in KT and Kuching respectively. It points to more battlelines drawn and whoever makes the right moves will come up trumps.
