In the National news its all about Anwars latest alledged sodomy case and to top it up today in Malaysiakini MCA Youth chief Liow said voter perceptions of Umno’s arrogance also pulled down MCA in the March 8 general election. Strong worded from the Cabinet Minister and he also told Hishammuddin UMNO youth chief that people don’t like UMNO because it has become arrogant. Wow..! Shouldn’t this discussion be between them and not revealed to the general public. Anyway the full report can be read:- http://www1.malaysiakini.com/news/85428

In Sarawak,it was supposed to be a merger of two Barisan National parties and three shortlisted names like “Beras” ”Deras” ”BPRS” were made known to the press and media at a press conference after the merger committtees met. Now it seems that a handbrake is pulled to stop this merger from moving on.

Why…? According to a Supreme Council member aligned to James he said recent events and developments have overshadowed the whole thing and taken over. Also the parties are not playing to “CMs tune” now.

  1. Sarawak BN chairman and CM Taib Mahmud who  spoke of the possibility of a merged PRS-SPDP entity one day “joining” Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), of which he is the president.
  2.  It must be noted that both Presidents of PRS and SPDP are supportive of joining PBB one day but there are just a “hint of cold feet.”
  3. Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president George Chan does not rule out the possibility of all four components of Sarawak Barisan Nasional would one day merge into one political entity.“If there is a possibility, then why not! If this is the better way for all of us, then we (should) do it,” Dr Chan, who is DCM, said when asked to comment on the planned merger between Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS)and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), and the possibility that a merged PRS-SPDP entity could one day join Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).

NST has the full coverage Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) said the matter was not even brought up at its recent supreme council meeting, while Parti Rakyat Sarawak said it would only bring up the matter at its supreme council meeting in Miri on Saturday.SPDP deputy secretary-general Paul Igai said there was nothing more to talk about on the proposal.

He also said the proposal was not brought up at its supreme council meeting as the party’s merger committee chairman Datuk Peter Nyarok was not available.”The next step may be to table the proposal “at our annual general meeting or extraordinary general meeting for adoption by the members,” he added.

Meanwhile PRS president Datuk Seri Dr James Masing said: “We will just update ourselves on the latest development on the proposal at our meeting. Maybe some of our supreme council members would like to air their views.”

Amongst the agenda at the Supreme Council meeting would be the that of YB Larry Sng and Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s office. We carried this report earlier on the 26th June 2008. According to inside sources, Larry Sng’s membership is a foregone conclusion. “The supreme council is merely to endorse the decision. As a matter of fact, a letter has been drafted and will be sent to the Chief Minister informing him that Larry is no longer a member of PRS and his post as assistant minister should be replaced by one of PRS’ State Assemblyman,” said the sources.

Isn’t this going against the administration of the Chief Minister? It is reliably learnt that CM will be keeping Larry in his administration as CM likes what he sees in Larry as he  seen as one of the hardest working assemblymen and a core part of the cabinet setup.

Would this really test the CMs patience and it must be noted that Larry commands a legitimate following of 19 out of 28 Divisions registered with ROS with a membership of 22325 out of 37618 members in PRS. It is Masings move and this might signal the start for more problems for the State administration. According to a member, James should just take a leave out of Nike’s slogan  ”Just do It
